TimDoc's Usenet Downloading Guide Online

Welcome to my Web page, where you can get the latest edition of my downloading guide.

Instead of using a multi-page Web site layout, I wrote the guide in a single HTML file - with numerous internal links for navigating to specific topics, as well as external links for accessing resources elsewhere on the Web.

You can view the guide online, of course, but this single-file structure simplifies my recommended strategy: rather than continually jumping to this site, download it to your computer (so it's always available, without your being online). I admit an ulterior motive, too, since this would also help minimize traffic on this site, yet still make the guide available to you at any time. :-)

You can access the guide two ways. Each provides the same document:

  • Click here to view the latest edition of TimDoc's Downloading Guide in your Web browser. It's a large, single-page HTML document. You can use it while online, or save it to your hard drive for offline use.

  • For faster service - especially if you're using a dialup modem - download the guide in a zipped file, then unzip it for offline use. If you don't have an unzip utility, click here for some links to free programs.

  • Note: I apologize for any inconvenience caused by the transition from the old domain name to timdoc.net. I'll repeatedly post messages in a variety of newsgroups, in hopes the word will get around fairly quickly.

I plan releasing a more complete revision of the guide soon. Honest! Real life keeps getting in the way of these more important tasks, unfortunately.

The new edition will include a more extensive indexing system (for finding info more easily), as well as more complete PAR2 coverage.

If you have questions, please post a message "ATTN: TimDoc" in the Usenet newsgroup

    alt.binaries.multimedia.

If you have comments about the guide, corrections, or suggestions for modifications, send an email to:

    timdoc - at - timdoc - dot - net

Insert an @ and a . where appropriate (I'm trying to cut down the spam I get in that box)

Many thanks to P.N., the developer of FSRaid, for hosting this site - and for a great PAR tool. :-)
